After the start, choose "New..." from the menu "File".

enter a project name

Enter a project name. [In old versions the dialog title may be "Open Project". However - it's for creating a new project]. In this tutorial the name "My fist Novel" is used.

Note: This is how the file is named, therefore for this name the same rules apply as for file names.

Don't use spacial character like / \ ? * : and others. For more information see this article on Wikipedia.

Choose the folder where you want to store your file. "My Documents" may be a good place to start with.

This is how Storybook looks after creating a new project (click to enlarge):

workspace

[1] This area is called "chronological view". It shows the scenes in chronological order. Since we haven't created any scenes yet, the area is almost empty now.

[2] Here we see the "object tree". The object tree shows all objects (characters, locations, chapters, scene etc.) hierarchically. Depending on the object this may be sorted alphabetically or by name.

[3] The so called "Quick Info" area shows information about the object selected in the object tree. Since we haven't selected a object in the tree, no information is shown.

[4] With the slider on the bottom you can scale the view area to fit to your screen size.
