A story with different plot lines - called strands in Storybook - is thrilling because the author switches in a clever way between the strands. In our short story, we have 3 strands: - Amy's and Ben's story. We used this strand for the first scene.
- Officer Kate's story.
- The story of the killer.
When starting a new project, one strand is defined as "Default Strand". Let's change this strand first. Click to the strand symbol on the tree toolbar. Then right click on the default strand and select "Edit Strand". You can also double click to edit a strand. Enter a new Title, let's say "Amy & Ben, and the abbreviation "AmBe". Then right click again and create 2 new strands: - "Kate (Kate)", color pink
- "Killer (Killer)", color dark gray
For each strand there is a separate column, see screenshot.
The second scene plays in Kate's office, so it is part of Kate's strand of course. Therefore click to the "+" button located in Kate's strand. Here is the text:
Kate's night turn Kate has a night turn in the police office today. Nothing exiting is happening. She checks her emails and get a new one. She doesn't know the sender. As she opens the mail and begins to read, she doesn't believe her eyes.
Assign the character and location, too, as shown in the screenshot. You don't have to fill in the scene date because it is on the same date as Amy's scene. Whenever you click on a button in a "date row", the date is filled in for you. The last scene for this part is for the killer: The killer is taking a shower Even killers are dirty sometime. As the warm water runs over his body, he suddenly gets an idea. His next victim will be a police officer. Note this scene plays the next day (Feb 3). The workspace looks now as shown below. We have two "date rows" and three "strand columns" now.
